Among the three Diploma courses started in our
Latha Mathavan Polytechnic College in 1996, Mechanical Engineering Department was the major one.

This Department was started with 6 teaching faculty along with 4 supporting staff members in the month of June, 1997. Within 7 years, in 2004 the strength of the students was increased to 108 with the permission from AICTE and DOTE. Again in 2005, the strength was increased to 144. At present the department is running with 12 lectures along with 5 supporting staff members.
